2009 February 01: The Ongoing Greening of A TreeHouse Bed and Breakfast. All of our lighting was converted today to more energy efficient CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lighting), dimmable CFL, and LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs. Already implemented prior to this date: very efficient envelope insulation (basement, walls, roof, caulking, weather stripping, etc); very efficient (due to large thermal mass and heat delivery by all floor areas) radiant floor (light weight concrete) heating throughout; 2 heatilator wood fireplaces; 1 energy efficient gas fireplace; very efficient hot water heating system that uses a separate heat exchanger loop to a very large well insulated storage tank off the main heating system gas boiler; insulating shutters with double glazed windows that can be opened; new best buy appliances (dishwasher, washer / dryer, fridge, small appliances) selected for for their energy star compliance. Almost all waste is composted (food) or re-cycled (containers, newspapers, paper, plastic bags).

Coming in time for next winter (heating season about mid November to mid March due to high quality insulation), a high efficiency gas boiler and possibly a hot water on demand assist to the hot water heating system.

Under consideration: solar assist to the house and hot water heating system; photovoltaic and wind assist to the electrical supply system with any excess to be supplied to the grid with a reversible electrical meter; automatic gas electric full emergency backup system.

2009 January 04: All of our rooms now have Samsung HD DVD/VCR Players. The TreeTop Suite and the PacificWest Suite now have Samsung 40" HD LCD TVs. The FarEast2 already has a wall mounted Samsung 32" HD LCD TV. The FarEast1 will soon have a wall mounted Samsung 32" HD LCD TV.     

2008 December 13: All of our guest beds now have Novaform Elite Memory Foam Mattress Toppers.

2008 October 20: Maxxmar Shutters for esthetics, sound, light, and temperature control were installed in all of our guest rooms.

2008 October 01: Introducing our new Mid-Season Rates: October 1-31, April 1-30.

2008 January 01: GST tax is now 5%.

2007 November 20: All of our rooms now have DVD players

2007 September: We now shop at Trader Joes in Bellingham WA for many of the groceries used at our bed and breakfast. We have been shopping at Trader Joes in Seattle for many years for groceries for our personal use.

2007 August 01: We have added debit cards as a payment option. Of course, we continue to accept all the major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard).

2007 June 16: Self serve filtered water Danby Icemaker available at all times for all of our guests in the second floor common area.

2007 June 16: Newly installed in the FarEast2 a wall mounted Samsung 32" HD LCD TV and a Sony VCR/DVD combo player.

2006 December 05: New commercial size and grade LG washer (water or steam) and dryer installed. Guest laundry services now available for a small fee.

2006 November 25: Complimentary High Speed (~54 Mbs) Wireless Internet is now available in all of our rooms.

2006 November 23: Self serve filtered hot and cold water available at all times for all of our guests in the second floor common area. Filtered water already available in all guest room pitchers - refilled daily.
